What conversion of mind, heart, and life is the Lord asking of me? And he spoke to them at length in parables.
How does God speak to me? How can I become more attentive to God’s voice?
Because knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has been granted to you.
How do I learn about my faith and the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven? Who has shared this knowledge with me?
When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away.
What distracts me from my faith and God’s Word? How can I grow in steadfastness and hope?

Learn more about the Eucharist and the Eucharistic Revival
In 2022, the US bishops launched an initiative for a “Eucharistic Revival”. The parish phase begins this weekend and will culminate in a “Eucharistic Congress” being held in Indianapolis in July 2024. At St. John’s we are entitling the Revival “That We May Believe.” The bishops are inviting us to participate in four different areas of reviving and expanding the role the Eucharist and faith have in our everyday lives. In the upcoming weeks, we will highlight one of those invitations. The first invitation is:
Reinvigorate Worship: We have great celebrations of the Mass and other prayers here at St. John’s. Great music, wonderful participation, faith-filled lay ministers, and dynamic presiders are all present when we gather to pray. However, there’s always room for improvement. Over the next few weeks, you may begin to see some minor changes in our celebrations. For example, there may be some short times of reverent silence between various parts of the Mass giving us time to reflect on what we just heard or did. Also, to participate fully, actively, and consciously, we should come prepared. Praying with the Sunday readings the week before can help us be better participants. If you aren’t already, consider adding this to your prayer time.
If you want to help with planning events and activities for our parish participation in the revival, contact Barbara at andersonbh@sjehydes.org or 410-592-6206 x106. American Eucharistic Witnesses
for Children
To help pave the way to the National Eucharistic Congress July 17–23, 2024, we are thrilled to present the American Eucharistic Witnesses. These are holy men and women who lived, loved, and served on the very soil upon which we now stand. They all testify—in unique and powerful ways—to what it means to encounter Jesus in the Eucharist and go on mission with him for the life of the world.
Each month from now through next July, we will feature a new witness. Old and young, men and women, representing different cultural families and vocations, these witnesses show us—in living color—what holiness looks like. We are also thrilled to partner with American artist Connor Miller, who is creating an original woodcut print of each witness to help us visually engage with this creative new series.
This month, we are featuring Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., as our first American Eucharistic Witness. A biography for younger children and one for older children, as well as an essay on Cardinal George can be found at https://sjehydes.org/eucharistic-revival

Eucharistic Adoration
“Adoration is the first attitude of man acknowledging that he is a creature before his Creator. It exalts the greatness of the Lord who made us and the almighty power of the Savior who sets us free from evil. Adoration is homage of the spirit to the “King of Glory,” respectful silence in the presence of the “ever greater” God. Adoration of the thrice-holy and sovereign God of love blends with humility and gives assurance to our supplications.” (CCC 2628)
In this year of Eucharistic Revival, join us for Eucharistic Adoration on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 PM in the Chapel.
Our next Adoration will be on July 19.
Steubenville Confrence
As the High School Conference comes to a close, we ask if you would please continue praying for these young pilgrims and their adult chaperones.
All-powerful God, you always show mercy toward those who love you and you are never far away for those who seek you. Remain with your servants on this holy pilgrimage and guide their way in accord with your will. Shelter them with your protection by day, give them the light of your grace by night, and, as their companion on the journey, bring them to their destination in safety. May the Lord grant that the journey we begin, relying on him, will end happily through his protection. Amen.
