What conversion of mind, heart, and life is the Lord asking of me?
A voice of one crying out in the desert,/ Prepare the way of the Lord,/make straight his paths. When have I felt like a voice crying out in the desert? When have I failed to use my voice when I should have?
The whole region around the Jordan … were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins.
What sins am I struggling with today? What prevents me from acknowledging my sinfulness and relying on God’s mercy?
I am not worthy to carry his sandals. How can I serve the Lord? How can I grow in humility and docility to the Lord’s will?

An Update to Our Sunday Livestream
We are so excited to say that we have officially completed two projects that were included in our capital campaign! As you may have noticed, this past Sunday, November 27, the large cameras set up in the back of the church are gone, as are the tripods in some of the pews. Over the past two years, this equipment was necessary to allow us to share in the celebration of the Mass with those who may be homebound or ill. Thanks to the generous donations to our capital campaign, we were able to upgrade our livestreaming system to include subtle, permanently mounted cameras that are out of the way and allow us to provide a professional livestream without disrupting the Mass in any way.
In addition to this equipment upgrade, we have moved our livestream from Facebook to YouTube. There are a couple of reasons for this change. Firstly, connection problems with Facebook have been consistent throughout our time livestreaming Masses. YouTube provides a more solid connection allowing for a stream without interruptions. Secondly, YouTube is more accessible to those who may not have a Facebook account. Live videos on YouTube are accessible to anyone regardless of if you have an account or not.
A Facebook post will go up each week before Mass with a link directly to the livestream on YouTube. You can also find it by going directly to our YouTube page at https://bit.ly/StJohnLGVYouTube.
White House Christmas Ornaments
The Knights Ladies are selling the 2022 White House Christmas Ornament this year for $26 each. The ornament is very pretty and commemorates the years of the Nixon administration. Ornaments will be sold after all Masses THIS WEEKEND, December 3/4. If you are interested and can’t purchase your ornament on those dates, please call Janie Zaegel at 410-941-5386 or email to mjzaegel@comcast.net. We appreciate your support in this annual fundraiser for our Ladies.
Anointing of the Sick
Those in ill health or preparing for medical procedures may receive this sacrament after the 9:00 AM Mass next Sunday, December 11, or on the 2nd Sunday of any month.
Our Daily Bread
We have pledged to provide 100+ casseroles on the first Monday of every other month to Our Daily Bread in Baltimore. Could you help us keep our commitment to feeding the needy? Baking is done right in the disposable pan which is available in the narthex. Please bring the frozen casserole to the church hall kitchen prior to December 4.
Short on time? A family-size Stouffer’s Mac ‘n Cheese or “Wish list” items – cereal, sugar, tea bags, iced tea mix, lunch bags, zipper sandwich bags, or plastic forks are also welcome donations.
Fleece Donations
St. John the Evangelist’s youth ministry is asking for donations of 2-yard lengths of fleece fabric or no-sew blanket kits to make blankets for those in need of extra warmth this winter. Fleece material and no-sew blanket kits can be found at JoAnn Fabric, Michael’s Craft Store, Walmart, or Amazon. Please bring your donations to the parish office. We will be collecting materials ALL WINTER long! If you have any questions, please contact Colleen Sisolak at youthministry@sjehydes.org

Blood Drive Thank You
Thank you to all of you that supported our recent Knights of Columbus Red Cross blood drive. Your efforts enabled us to donate 34 pints of this life-giving liquid at a time when it is critically needed. See you again on June 3, 2023.
Children's Liturgy of the Word
St. John is so excited to once again offer children ages 5 to 10 an opportunity to hear God’s word in a way that is designed just for them. The children will be called to the Altar for a blessing before being taken to the Church Hall for their own lesson on the day’s readings. The children return to celebrate the rest of the Mass with their families after the Homily.
We will have CLOW at 9 AM Mass on December 11. We would love to offer CLOW every week but we need more leaders and assistants! For more information or to help serve in this ministry, contact Melanie Hecht at mlhecht927@protonmail.com. It is a great place for adults and teens to serve!
Gaudet Sunday Next Week
December 11 is Gaudete Sunday, the third Sunday of Advent, which signifies the nearness of the Lord’s coming. We will light two purple candles (for the first two Sundays of Advent) as well as the rose candle on the Advent wreath. This is a joyous occasion! Our time of waiting for the Lord’s coming is almost over.
