What conversion of mind, heart, and life is the Lord asking of me?
He walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice. How do I recognize the voice of God? Where is Jesus calling me to follow him?
But they will not follow a stranger; they will run away from him, because they do not recognize the voice of strangers. What strange and divisive voices pull me away from God? How can I mute those voices?
Whoever enters through me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. Where do I find pasture and rest? What opportunities for rest and restoration are available to me?

The children return to celebrate the rest of the Mass with their families after the Homily. We will have CLOW at 9 AM Mass on April 30. First Communion Congratulations to all our children who received their First Communion this Spring. This is a very special weekend not only for the children, but for their parents and St. John the Evangelist Community. This is the first year that we have moved the celebration of First Communion from a group celebration to weekend Mass celebrations. By doing so it is an excellent opportunity for the community to support these young children and their families in their faith journey. Through this sacrificial meal, may these children continue to grow in their love and desire to be close to Jesus. Annual Appeal for Catholic Ministries
In today’s Gospel, Jesus makes clear how different he is from other religious leaders: “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). He is the good shepherd and our Annual Appeal for Catholic Ministries l exists so that more might find comfort in His fold. We, His sheep, have His voice to guide us. In moments of darkness, He guides us. He gives us clarity, peace, and confidence as His peace is more potent than any earthly trouble. Please consider supporting the Annual Appeal so we can help other souls gain peace. Our parish goal for the Appeal for Catholic Ministries is $82,248. We are about 92% of the way there, with $75,845. To contribute, visit www.archbalt.org/appeal or scan the QR code below.
Pastoral Council Nominations
Beginning the weekend of May 21 and continuing through May 30, St. John’s will conduct an election online for new members for the Pastoral Council. This is an important duty of all parishioners to elect from a list of candidates the members who can ably represent the community and work with others to assist our pastor in matters of pastoral concern in fulfilling the mission of the parish. Please pray that we may maintain excellent representatives on the Pastoral Council who will promote the mission of our SJE Church. If you are interested in serving in this capacity, please contact Ray Dietz at craytrek@comcast.net or Ruth Ann Smith at rajds@comcast.net.
Looking for Clothing Racks
Do you have a clothing rack that we could borrow? The Treasures in the Hall flea market is looking to borrow clothing racks to be able to sell some clothes at this year’s Spring Fling. If you are willing to lend us a clothing rack or display, please call the parish office at 410-592-6206 for details on when and where you can drop it off. Any borrowed items will be returned after the Spring Fling is over and the Hall is cleaned up. Thank you!
National Eucharistic Revival
Do you have a love of the Eucharist? Have you had a spiritual experience involving the Eucharist? If so, we are looking for you. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops are conducting a Eucharistic Revival from June 2022-July 2024. Beginning June 10, 2023 will be the parish portion of the Eucharistic Revival. As part of the revival we are looking for people who are willing to pray; to share their Eucharistic experience online with others; and/or be Eucharistic Missionaries. It’s easy to do. Go to www.eucharisticrevival.org. Scroll down to “How to get involved?” and click on “Learn more”. Here are the descriptions of what you will be doing in one or more of the three options:
• BECOME A PRAYER PARTNER Join a team of spiritual advocates! Help us cover the whole Revival in prayer, fasting, and penance. Sign up below to unlock special inspiration and opportunities—and to tell us that we can count on your prayers!
• SHARE A TESTIMONY How has Christ’s presence in the Eucharist touched your life? Share your testimony to open more hearts to the healing power of Our Lord.
• BECOME A EUCHARISTIC MISSIONARY Eucharistic Missionaries earnestly, expectantly ask God for revival… and then respond when he calls. Join a movement of Catholics who are committing themselves to prayer, formation, and service.
Look for more details in future bulletins, flocknotes and on the parish website about how our parish will be participating in this revival. We will have small discussion groups; opportunities for adoration; presentations on the Eucharist and its importance in our church; and other events. If you have any questions or want more information, contact Barbara at andersonbh@sjehydes.org or 410-592-5606x106.
Mother's Day Novena
Mothers’ Day is May 14, 2023. We hear in the Scripture, while Jesus was on the cross, He said, “Son, here is your mother; mother, here is your son.” God entrusted to us our mothers. We must love our mothers; there is no excuse for that. The greatest act of love for our mothers is prayer for them. St. John wishes to partner with you to accomplish this act of love by offering a Novena of Masses (nine Masses) for your mother starting May 14, 2023. We invite you to join the many sons and daughters of our parish to offer Mass intentions for them. Come and include your mother in this Novena. Envelopes are available in the Narthex and Parish Office.
