What conversion of mind, heart, and life is the Lord asking of me?
The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard.
How am I being called to labor for the Lord? How can I prepare my heart to hear and respond to the Lord’s call?
Why do you stand here idle all day?
When have I failed to act as I should? How have I become lazy in my spiritual life?
Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.
Who in my community is seen as “last”? How can I reach out to the forgotten and marginalized?

Prayer Ministry This Weekend
“Miracles happen. But prayer is needed! Prayer that is courageous, struggling and persevering, not prayer that is a mere formality.” - Pope Francis
If you need prayer or wish to pray for someone or a circumstance in your life, we have people who will pray with and for you. Our parish prayer ministry consists of teams of trained prayer ministers who will pray with you. They are representatives of our parish community who fulfill the call to pray for one another. After all Masses on the last weekend of each month, prayer teams are available near the Mary statue in the front of the church. Simply approach a prayer team member, if you wish, tell them your concerns, and allow them to pray with you and for you, knowing that God hears and answers our prayers. Prayer Ministers will be available after all Masses next weekend, September 23/24.
An Important Invitation
We are starting to share short videos about the parts of the Mass. After each Mass, “Elements of the Catholic Mass” will be shown. These videos run for no longer than 6-7 minutes each and most are less than 5 minutes. In the bulletin each week will be a 2-page study guide that summarizes the video, gives you other resources about that part of the Mass, and has discussion questions. Anyone who wishes can stay for an informal discussion in the church using the discussion questions. Following the 9 am Mass, there will be a discussion facilitated by someone from the Adult Faith Formation team. We hope that everyone will stay for a few minutes each week to learn more about the source and summit of our faith, the Eucharistic Liturgy – the Holy Mass. If you want, you can also watch the videos on FORMED. To gain access to all of FORMED’s content, follow these simple steps:
• Go to https://signup.formed.org/
• Enter our parish’s zip code (21082)
• Enter your name and your email address
That’s it! You’re in. Now you can get the free FORMED app for your phone by searching FORMED Catholic in your app store.
Some additional suggestions for you to watch at home:
• The Jewish Roots of the Catholic Mass – 6 minutes
• The Eucharist as Sacrifice and Communion – 8 minutes
• The Most Holy Body and Blood – 7 minutes
For children:
• Brother Francis: The Mass: A Lifegiving Prayer – 30 minutes
• The Eucharist for Little Children – 20 minutes
• The Last Supper: Laugh and Grow Bible for Children – 7 minutes
We are so excited for the Confirmation Mass that will be taking place at 5:00 PM on Saturday, September 30, with Bishop Madden Presiding. Please join us as we fully initiate 18 young people from our community!

Catechetical Sunday
Sunday, September 24, 2023. “Come to me all who labor and are burdened.”
Catechists who serve children, youth, young adults, and adults will be called forth to be commissioned and recognized for their ministry. This special day is an opportunity for all to reflect on the role that each person plays by virtue of his/her Baptism, in handing on their faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for the assembly to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith, especially for Parents who are the first Catechists to their children.
Reconciliation
A Zoom Meeting was held regarding the First Reconciliation Preparation Program. If you were not able to attend that meeting, please contact the Faith Formation Office
Our Daily Bread
We have pledged to provide 100+ casseroles on the first Monday of each month to Our Daily Bread in Baltimore. Could you help us keep our commitment to feed the needy? Baking is done right in the disposable pan which is available in the narthex. Please bring the frozen casserole to the church hall kitchen prior to October 1.
Short on time? A family-size Stouffer’s Mac ‘n Cheese or “Wish list” items – cereal, sugar, tea bags, iced tea mix, lunch bags, zipper sandwich bags, or plastic forks are also welcome donations.
Communion to the Homebound
If you or someone you know are homebound and would like to receive Holy Communion, please contact Barbara Anderson at andersonbh@sjehydes.org or 410-952-6206 ext. 106. Also, if you would like to serve as a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound, let us know. We are always looking for people to provide Holy Communion to those who are unable to come to Sunday Masses. We will provide training to those who want to take Holy Communion to others and provide you with a container to take communion with you as well as a book of prayers.
Ministry Forum and Appreciation Breakfast
Please reserve Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 8:30 AM for the Ministry Forum and Appreciation Breakfast to highlight the importance of ministries in parish life and to present the significance of the alignment of ministries under the 5 core mission areas of St. John the Evangelist Church. This will also be an opportunity to thank all volunteers who are providing ministry in our parish.
The guest speaker will be the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Most Rev. Bruce Lewandowski, C. Ss R., and Mr. Waye Hipley of the Office of Parish Renewal to assist in understanding the alignment process. This event is one of the Action Steps the Ministry Implementation team created to realize the proper alignment of parish ministries. The goal of this prioritized strategy is to increase the participation of parishioners in a ministry that will satisfy one’s personal mission and partnership with Jesus.
We wish to ask the leaders of current ministries to inform their members about this event and submit to the Office the total number and names of their participating members as soon as possible.
