What conversion of mind, heart, and life is the Lord asking of me?
For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be. What do I treasure most in life? How do I give evidence to that value?
Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master’s return. How am I preparing for Jesus’ return? What steps can I take this week to live a more faith-filled life?

HAY Work Camp
Last week, the Harford Area Youth Ministries got together for a week of service to our communities. There were 80 participants from five parishes. Together they painted 60 bowls for SVDP Bowls, made 23 casseroles for Our Daily Bread, collected six bags of items for Birthright, packed 65 bookbags for Dundalk Chamber of Commerce/BCPS, donated 20 books to a Baltimore City parish, made 22 blankets for Project Linus, made 70 rosaries for Ranger Rosary, and spent 102 hours weeding and cleaning tables/chairs for members of the community who needed help with these tasks.
Thank you to all those who volunteered to serve our community.
Our Daily Bread Update
July 31, 2022 God Bless Our Casserole Angels! Today we collected and delivered 66 casseroles to Our Daily Bread. Although below our goal of 100, still it represents a significant effort during this very busy time of year. Unfortunately, we had to discard 16 casseroles in our recent power outage. Needless to say, the staff at ODB was so very appreciative of all your efforts. You truly do make a difference month after month for the very special recipients of these hot, home-cooked meals. Each casserole feeds a hot meal to six or more of our very needy neighbors. Please continue to deliver your casseroles to the freezers in the church hall. Our next delivery date to Our Daily Bread is Sunday, October 2, 2022.
Again, God Bless you for all you do for our brothers and sisters in Christ. YOU TRULY ARE THE BEST!
Communion to the Homebound
New people to this Ministry: Are you or do you know a person who is homebound and would like someone to bring them Holy Communion? Are you a person who would be willing to take Holy Communion to someone who can’t make it to church? We want to reach out to those folks in our community who have this need and those who are willing to help take the sacrament to them. If you fit either of these descriptions, please contact Barbara Anderson at andersonbh@sjehydes.org or 410-592-6206 x106. We will provide training to those who want to take Holy Communion to others and provide you with a pyx (a container to take communion with you) and a book of prayers.
People who already participate in this Ministry: If you are already taking communion to a homebound person or are someone having communion brought to you, please contact Barbara at the above email or phone. We want to be sure we know those people who are already providing this service and those who are already receiving. Since COVID our records have become out-of-date, and we want to update them. Please provide the name of the minister and the recipient.
Thank you in advance for helping us keep our records current and serving our parishioners.

Haiti Special Request - Thank You
A special thanks to the very generous donors who were able to provide support for this project. We are very close to our goal of $40,000 - accomplished in a remarkably short period of time. It is our plan to begin sending money incrementally to Fr. Jacson later this month and to monitor construction plans and progress. Updates will be posted as received. Additional donations, should you be interested, can be taken to the parish office or put in the collection marked “Haiti Special School Project”. We truly have a special parish and very special parishioners. It’s clear to me that we received loving guidance from Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother on this project. Peace and God Bless.
St. Elizabeth of Hungary Food Pantry
Happy Summer to everyone! We would like to once again thank everyone who donated food in June to St. Elizabeth’s Food Pantry. Our donations helped to fill the shelves at the Pantry’s new location. As always, our friends at the Pantry were so grateful for all of your generosity.
A very big “Thank you” goes out to Ed and Lorna Bills. Their farm donated 8 boxes of vegetables (zucchini, tomatoes, squash, and sweet corn) along with 20 pints of blackberries. What a special treat for the Pantry! Thank you, Ed and Lorna!!
Our next food collection is next Sunday, August 14th. Items that the Food Pantry has specifically asked for this month include: Cereal, Macaroni and Cheese, Canned fruit, Applesauce, Instant Mashed Potatoes, Soup, Pancake Mix, Syrup, Tea bags, Toilet Paper, and Snacks like crackers, chips, and muffins for the children. Summer Paint & Sip
The Adult Faith Formation ministry invites you to enjoy an evening of fun and creativity with other parishioners on Friday, August 19 at 7 PM in the parish social hall. The “fun” involves catching up with friends and acquaintances as well as getting to know some new people – you know those folks who you have seen in church for some time, but you don’t know their names? Now is that opportunity to get to know them.
The “creativity” is the opportunity to apply and/or learn some artistic skills in a Paint & Sip format. Adult parishioners are invited to participate by purchasing tickets in advance. Paint, canvas, easel, and brushes will be provided. We are arranging to provide someone with artistic talent and skill to guide your efforts. Light snacks will be provided. Participants should bring their own beverage (soft drinks, beer, or wine) and an apron or something to protect their clothing. Don’t want to paint, come anyway, just for the fun of it.
Tickets will be sold after Masses on July 30/31 and August 6/7 and in the parish office prior to the event to ensure we have enough supplies:
Individual - $30; Couple - $50; Non-painters - $5
Please contact Barbara Anderson at andersonbh@ sjehydes.org with any questions.

GREECE: In the Footsteps of Paul the Apostle
Come with us to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site in Ephesus, Turkey to see where Paul the Apostle lived for three years during his ministry. Also, visit the House of Mary, where the Virgin Mother spent her last days. Visit the Basilica of St. John, believed to be the burial site of St. John. Onward to Patmos where we will visit the Cave of the Apocalypse where John wrote the Book of Revelation during his exile. We will also visit Mykonos and Santorini. Then onto the Mainland of Greece to discover natural beauty and ancient history on this Grecian sojourn.
The Mental Health epidemic is noticeably all around us. Chances are, you or someone you love struggles with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, addiction, or another mental health challenge. We are aware of the hurt, but not how to help. This could change!
Mental Health First Aid is a one-day, in-person training, along with approximately 2 hours of pre-work and 1 hour of post-work to train you in how to identify, address, and assist those experiencing a mental health crisis. Just as CPR certification does not certify you as a cardiologist, neither will MHFA certify you as a therapist, yet CPR and MHFA can save lives!!!
St. John will be hosting 2 training days:
Saturday, August 13 from 9 AM-3 PM
Saturday, September 10 from 9 AM-3 PM
Please sign up below or call the parish to register.
Mental Health First Aid
Sign Up This is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to assist those experiencing a mental health crisis. Just as having CRP training does not make you a cardiologist, neither does this training make you a therapist. However, we can be a first line of defense.
Saturday, August 13, 2022, 9am-3pm (plus 2hrs of pre-work and 1 hour of post-work completed remotely)
Saturday, September 10, 2022, 9am-3pm (plus 2hrs of pre-work and 1 hour of post-work completed remotely)
