What conversion of mind, heart, and life is the Lord asking of me?
When it was evening he was there alone.
When have I felt most alone? How can I be present to those who have no one?
During the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them walking on the sea.
When have I seen the power of God displayed? How can I grow in trust of God’s awesome power?
Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.
When have I been tempted to test the Lord? When has my faith been plagued by doubts?

St. Elizabeth of Hungary Food Pantry
Happy Summer to everyone!
This is a reminder that we will be collecting food for the St. Elizabeth's of Hungary Food Pantry next Sunday, August 13, 2023. Our friends at the Food Pantry continue to rely on your donations to help those less fortunate. Thank you for your never-ending support!
Specific items that the Food Pantry has requested this time include: Sugar, Ketchup, Mustard, Mayonnaise, Macaroni and Cheese, Saltine crackers, Canned soups, Tuna Fish, Peanut Butter, and Baked Beans. If possible - Please use reusable bags for your donations. Thank you!

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Two Masses will be held in celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 8:30 AM and 7:00 PM in the church.
Eucharist: An Act of Hope
Kevin Fitzpatrick shares the story of longtime family friend Brother Ed, who insisted that babies are always a sign of hope. Even in the midst of adversity and suffering, Br. Eucharistic Adoration
“Adoration is the first attitude of man acknowledging that he is a creature before his Creator. It exalts the greatness of the Lord who made us and the almighty power of the Savior who sets us free from evil. Adoration is homage of the spirit to the “King of Glory,” respectful silence in the presence of the “ever greater” God. Adoration of the thrice-holy and sovereign God of love blends with humility and gives assurance to our supplications.” (CCC 2628)
In this year of Eucharistic Revival, join us for Eucharistic Adoration on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Chapel.
Our next Adoration will be on August 16.

Young Adult Small Group Thank You
Thank you to all the young adults who participated in our summer Young Adult Small Group series. We love the community we have built and know that we will continue to grow with you all. If you are leaving for school, please stay in touch and come to any future meetings you are available for during breaks or while visiting home. If you will still be in the area, we will continue to meet on Sundays at 1:00 PM.
Presence: Young Adult Small Group
Our Young Adult Small Group has started their summer series on Presence. They are connecting with and learning about the Eucharist as we continue, nationally, the Eucharistic Revival. If you are between the ages of 18 and 30 and are interested in joining a small group, please contact Colleen Sisolak. Our current small group meets at 1:00 PM on Sundays in the Koontz House.
Back to School
Please keep in your prayers our college students who are returning to school or just starting their first year in the next few weeks.
Heavenly Father, help these college students to walk in the ways that align with your word.
Lord, as they juggle different things at school, remind them that they can do all things through Christ who strengthens them.
May they take delight in you and commit everything they do to you that you may grant them the desires of their hearts.
In Jesus’ name, I believe and pray, Amen.

Registration for 2023-2024
Slowly, we are beginning to see our summer respite fading away. As we flip the page to August, we begin to gear up making sure that we have all the catechists and supplies for the students for the start of the New Faith Formation Year. This year is no different. We are currently waiting for the new Pflaum Weekly Gospel reading to arrive, which should be any day now. The new texts for the Family Life Program arrived last week.
If you have not already done so, please complete the Registration Form and remember to complete the Permission and Waiver form (one for each child) and return it to the Faith Formation Office at konitzermt@sjehydes.org. The Registration and Permission Waiver forms can be found on the parish website under Sacraments/Learning.

Catechists and Assistants
To begin the new Faith Formation year, we are looking for people who love their faith and sharing their faith experiences with youth. We are very excited about this year’s new program, which is based on the weekly gospel readings. CLOW Help Needed
Love teaching? Love kids? Come join our fun ministry, Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW), where you can share your love of God with the children of our parish. All the lesson plans and materials are provided for you. It takes place on Sunday mornings at the 9:00 AM Mass during the readings and homily. Volunteer as often as you would like (once a month is perfect, but we will work with your schedule). There are two positions: Lead Teacher and Assistant. The Lead Teacher will implement the lesson plan while the Assistant helps the teacher. The Assistant position is great for teens! Interested? Questions? Contact Melanie at mlhecht927@protonmail.com
Paint & Sip Night
The Adult Faith Formation Ministry will be hosting a Paint & Sip Night for adults on Friday, August 25, 2023, from 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM. We will be painting a snowman scene which may help us to cool off during the hot days of August. It’s an opportunity to gather with friends and friends you haven’t yet met. Even if you don’t want to paint, come and socialize with others. Cost will be $20 for painters and $5 for non-painters. The cost includes paint, brushes, canvas, easel, and light snacks. Please bring your own beverage (soft drinks, beer, or wine) and an apron to protect your clothing or wear something that may get paint on it. Tickets are available in the parish office and after Masses on the weekend of August 12/13. Deadline to register is August 14 to ensure we have enough materials. Walking With Purpose
Walking with Purpose, a dynamic WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY will begin a new season on September 10, 2023. If you are interested in experiencing a closer walk with Jesus and meeting a caring group of women to share your journey with, you won’t want to miss this life-giving, life-changing small group experience for women! The title of the study will be “Touching the Divine” and focuses on the Gospel of John. This will coincide uniquely with the National Eucharistic Revival. It is a 22-week study and will run through March 17 with breaks for Thanksgiving (1 week) and Christmas (5 weeks). Registration is available now online using this link: https://bit.ly/sjewwp23. In person registration will take place on the weekends of August 19/20, 26/27, and September 2/3 after all Masses. The book costs $40 and is available in the narthex on registration weekends, in the parish office, from the WWP website, and from Amazon. Help Needed!
Do you have a truck? Would you be willing to help us transport the Mums from a farm in PA to SJE? We are hoping to get 150 Mums and want to make sure they arrive as beautiful as when we pick them up. If you are available on Friday, September 8th to meet us at the farm around 4pm we would be very thankful. We also would like to share our gratitude by giving you 2 potted mums, color of your choice! Please contact Colleen if you can help.
Our Daily Bread
God Bless Our Casserole Angels!! On this very busy summer weekend we were able to deliver 88 casseroles to Our Daily Bread. What a blessing! Caring and sharing! That’s what it’s all about. Giving glory to Our Lord through serving our neighbor., and a testimony to the loving spirit of our little parish as we work in communion!
Our next delivery will take place on Sunday, October 1, with pick up at 11:30 just prior to Mass. God Bless!
Sunday 9 AM Live-stream on YouTube for the Sick/Homebound
The live-streamed 9 AM Mass continues as a ministry for the sick and homebound.
Those who are sick or homebound are welcome to join us for St. John’s Online Mass on Sundays at 9:00 AM. We will livestream and record Mass on the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church (Hydes, MD) YouTube page. You do not need a Google or YouTube account to watch the livestream. Simply visit our YouTube page (https://bit.ly/StJohnLGVYouTube) and select the "Live" tab.
